Duplicate Item Check

Written by Jarad on March 20, 2023

Under Settings > Items, you will find the Duplicate Item Check setting. If you do not have permission to access the settings for the account, you will need to contact the Account Owner or a user with the Settings permission to change the Duplicate Item Check setting.

By default, FastBound is set to Serial Only.

  • Serial Only

    • This setting exceeds 27 CFR § 478.92(a) and is the most compliant for FFLs who place serial numbers on items.

    • This setting is the default.

    • This setting is the safest way to prevent duplicate items.

    • This setting will not allow any item to be acquired with the same serial number as any other open Item in your account.

  • Manufacturer and Serial

    • This setting meets 27 CFR § 478.92(a) and is the most compliant for FFLs who do not place serial numbers on items.

    • This setting will allow you to acquire items with the same serial number if they are from different manufacturers.

  • Manufacturer, Serial, Model, Caliber, and Type

    • This setting is not fully compliant with 27 CFR § 478.92(a), but it does allow for matched sets to be acquired.

    • This setting is the least restrictive and will allow you to acquire duplicate items if the Manufacturer, Serial, Model, Caliber, or Type are different.

    • This setting should only be used temporarily and reverted to Serial Only or Manufacturer and Serial as soon as possible.

Note: 27 CFR § 478.92(a) is for the manufacturer, importer, or the FFL placing the serial number on the item. If you are not placing the serial number on the item, you need to record what is on the item, even if it’s a duplicate of another item. If you are the manufacturer, importer, or the FFL placing the serial number on the item, you should not have a duplicate serial number.
