How To Use The Background Check Browser Extension With DROS

Written by Jarad on November 10, 2025

The background browser extension is only compatible with Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge. If you do not already have the extension installed, you can go to our Adding the Background Check Browser Extension help article for instructions on how to install it.

FastBound’s background check browser extension is compatible with the California DROS system. You must use the corresponding button at the top of the pending 4473 for the extension to work.

Always review everything that is entered using the extension. You are responsible for what is entered, and if the information entered into DROS does not exactly match what is on the 4473, you could receive administrative action against your FFL during an inspection.

  • Click on the California icon at the top of a pending 4473.

You MUST click this button to load the extension with the information from the 4473. The extension will not work properly if you open a new tab and sign into DROS.

  • Sign in to your DROS account with your CA DES-issued username and password.

  • Select the type of firearms transaction

  • Click the FastBound Browser Extension icon in the top right-hand corner of Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge.

If you cannot see the Browser Extension, click the puzzle piece in your browser’s toolbar, then select FastBound. If you still cannot see the extension, then you do not have it installed. Go to our Adding the Background Check Browser Extension help article for instructions on how to install.

Tip – If you click the thumbtack icon in Google Chrome or the eye icon in Microsoft Edge, the extension will always show in your toolbar.

  • Click “Fill Purchaser Information” then click “Fill Transaction and Firearm Information”

  • Select and fill in the DROS Firearms Eligibility Questions

Once all of the DROS information has been entered, you will preview the DROS report by clicking on the “Preview” button. If any information is missing or entered incorrectly, an error message will display. If the system doesn’t detect any problems with the DROS, a preview of the DROS report will display.

  • Click the DROS payment agreement checkbox

  • Click Submit Final on the Pending Purchases page

After clicking ‘OK’, the “Pending” DROS Report containing a DROS number, transaction date and time, and the earliest and latest delivery date/ time will be displayed.
