What is the Spanish 4473?
The Spanish 4473, formally the Registro de Transacción de Armas de Fuego, is the ATF’s official Spanish version of Form 4473. It is a direct translation of the English form, published by the ATF for Spanish-speaking buyers purchasing a firearm from a licensed dealer in the United States. Filling Out Form 4473
Form 4473 captures the information required by federal law for every firearm sale or transfer, including:
- Buyer’s name, address, and personal identification
- Firearm details, including make, model, and serial number
- Statutory requirements under 18 U.S.C. § 922, including questions about criminal convictions, misdemeanor crimes of domestic violence, controlled substance use, and whether the buyer has been adjudicated as mentally defective or committed to a mental institution
- Transferee certification that the buyer is the actual purchaser
If more than three firearms are involved in a single transaction, additional firearms are recorded on the Form 4473 continuation sheet.

Steps to Completion

- The FFL adds firearm details to the system. If more than three firearms are involved, additional firearm information is added to the continuation sheet.
- The buyer completes and signs Form 4473 on any device, including a computer, tablet, or smartphone.
- Once the completed 4473 is received, the dealer runs the NICS background check.
- When the background check clears, the transaction is finalized, the record is stored, and the FFL can move on to the next sale.
